“Who’s got the (insert rare shoe here)’s?? Cash in hand looking to buy!!”
If you’re a member of any sneaker groups on Facebook, you know the type: there’s always that guy who “needs” to get a rare sneaker and is promising to pay a high price for it. This same person will usually go on to complain that nobody plugs them, and they’re always being taxed.
I thought I’d write a quick little piece on how to not be that guy. You’ve gotta keep your cards close to your chest to avoid being taxed, and there are a few simple steps to ensure that you won’t have to pay outrageous prices.
First of all, try and be sly when you’re on the hunt for a new sneaker. Creep around the groups and see if anyone is already trying to sell. There’s no need to put it out there that you’re looking before you make an effort to do a little research.
If you’ve already snooped around and haven’t had any luck, then it’s time to let everyone know that you’re on the hunt. However, there’s an art to doing this as well. When you make a “looking for” post, try to keep it real casual. You’re not going to do any yourself any favors by saying things like “I NEED these” or “CASH in hand”. If you’re too forthright about your desire for a certain pair, you’ll never be able to get a plug. People will see that you’re thirsty for the kicks, and tax to their heart’s content.
Finally, when you do find someone who has the kicks you’re looking for, make sure to be careful. It’s a give and take, and you want to ensure you’re getting the best price possible. Don’t be excessive. Have a set limit you’re willing to pay in mind, and for God’s sake, stick to it. It’s satisfying to set limits and not go over them.
