If you’re in any of the Minnesota sneaker pages on Facebook (chances are you’re a member of at least one as there’s a ton of them), you probably saw the chaos this weekend. Sneakerheads were camping outside stores. There were long lines for a non-Yeezy sneaker for the first time in what feels like forever. The thirst (and the salt) were both very real. What shoe caused this fracas?
The “Master” Jordan XII.
You’re probably surprised, and don’t worry…you’re certainly not the only one. Sure, it’s a clean shoe. Sure, a XII hasn’t released in a while. But all this, especially for a shoe that was incredibly widely available? You can’t say it’s what you expected to happen.
Maybe the thirst for a fresh pair of XII’s was very real. Maybe people were just sold on the simple, clean colorway (can’t fault anyone for that). Maybe everyone’s tax return just hit at the same time and they felt like blowing some cash (understandable)
Whatever happened, it’s a good look for Jordan Brand, especially in Minnesota, where the focus of a lot of sneakerheads seems to have firmly shifted from Jordan to Adidas, thanks to Kanye and the undying thirst for anything with his stamp on it. Jordan needed a win on a GR going into the spring/summer months, and they got it with these XII’s.
Will this be the start of something new? Will GR’s start selling out quickly like they used to? We’ll just have to wait and see, but whatever happens, chalk up a W for Jordan Brand in Minnesota this weekend.
