A large part of Supreme’s allure every season is the collabs. ‘Preme fans all over the world wait with baited breath at the beginning of every season to see what kind of fire is going to be emptying their wallets for the next few months.
These collabs are usually not announced in advance, and sometimes come to light mere days before they release. Supreme certainly keeps you on your toes, and this season’s first footwear collab with Timberland was just announced, consisting of Timberland’s classic Field Boot (releasing sometime in December) and Lug Shoe (releasing Thursday).
Timberland and Supreme most recently came together for a 3-way effort with Comme Des Garcons (a Timberland 6-inch boot) that released last season. Those were well-received, and although we don’t like this collab quite as much as that one, we’re still rocking with it. The Field Boot is a great mid-cut fall/winter boot, and although we don’t really love the white/black colorway or the red/black colorway, the black pair is solid, and Supreme’s updated take on the classic “beef & broccoli” boot is a real winner.
As far as the Lug Shoe goes, we’ll keep it brutally honest: not a winner in our book. They look like a bulkier, clunkier Sperry Top-Sider, and are just flat-out not appealing. We could see where these might fit in someone’s fall wardrobe nicely (especially the brown colorway), but they’re just not for us.
So what are we thinking overall? Well, this season’s Supreme x Timberland collab gets a solid 5/10 from us. There are a few decent pairs, but nothing to get really excited over, and nothing that’s a must-cop either. Here’s hoping that the rest of this season’s collabs are a bit more exciting, as these aren’t really a resounding start.
