What a crazy week in sneakers.
It’s Friday. The weekend isn’t even upon us yet, and we’ve already been blessed with some dumb fire, courtesy of Nike x Supreme (Blazers), and Nike x Acronym (Prestos).
That’s just the tip of the iceberg though. This weekend is one of the most loaded sneaker release weekends in recent memory with collabs and premium releases galore dropping … so you already know we had to rank our 5 favorites. We’ve gotta say: in all our years of ranking jawns we’ve never had this much difficulty creating a list, but we somehow managed to make the tough decisions and narrow all the releases down to just 5. Let’s get right to it.
5. Jordan IV Pinnacle/Premium “Obsidian”-Saturday, $400
Any premium Jordan IV is pretty much guaranteed to be a winner, and these “Obsidian” joints continue the trend. The intricate quilted leather sitting on top of a simple white midsole and outsole is a great look, and the copper eyelets and heel tab detailing add a little extra flair.
4. Adidas NMD R1 “Solar Red”-Saturday, $150
If this was 2013, there’s a good chance this pair would take the #1 spot on the list, but in 2016, with the all-red fad over, it comes in at #4. Even though the trend’s not really around anymore, the all-red colorway is very vibrant, and the insane thirst for these might mean that all-red kicks are making a comeback.
3. Adidas NMD R1 “Triple Black”-Saturday, $150
Yup, we’re going back to back with the NMD’s … and the “Triple Black” pair is more our style. With fall upon us this is a perfect colorway that can be easily worked into your rotation, and will go with anything you have in your wardrobe. The reflective stripes add some flash, both literally and figuratively.
2. Packer Shoes x Reebok Question Mid “Curtain Call”-Today, $175
This is an amazing release from Packer and Reebok, one that would take the top spot almost any other week … but it’s making a strong showing at #2. Created to honor Allen Iverson’s induction into the Hall Of Fame, it offers a premium pebbled leather Horween upper, red and blue accents to pay homage to the first two Question colorways ever, and will be released in an extremely limited run of 500 at Reebok’s Union Square store in NYC. Allen Iverson himself will even be on hand for the event. This is truly a dope shoe with a ton of meaning behind it.
1. Kith x A Bathing Ape “Kithsta”-Saturday, $300
It takes a very special shoe to beat out this week’s #2 sneaker for the top spot … and these Kith x A Bathing Ape “Kithstas” are that shoe. The most buzzed-about item from Ronnie Fieg’s “Kithland” show this week, the “Kithstas” are hand-crafted in Portugal with materials sourced from Italy. Bapestas have always been known for being loud and borderline garish, but Ronnie brings his elegant touch to Bape’s flagship shoe with a beautiful, clean colorway. As Bape lovers and OG Kith fans, these are an absolute must-have for us, and are one of our favorite releases of the year.
Editor’s note: There was a lot of fire that had to be left off the list this weekend, so honorable mentions go to the all-white Kith x A Bathing Ape “Kithstas”, the Staple x Puma Blaze of Glory “Pigeon”, and the Wolverine x Saucony Shadow Original.
