There’s no shoe in the running market more ubiquitous than the Nike Free. From hardcore runners to weekend warriors to folks who just like wearing running shoes casually and don’t actually do any running (people like us), the Free is by far the most popular shoe on the market.
It’s lightweight. It’s comfy. It’s (somewhat) stylish. It’s one of Nike’s highest-grossing models year after year after year, and deserves your respect off the strength of consistency alone. And we’ve gotta say, Nike is good about updating the Free every so often to keep it fresh.
This year’s Free Flyknit and regular Free both have received minor cosmetic adjustments (just enough for them to be different), but the crown jewel of Nike’s 2017 Free lineup is the Free Run Motion Flyknit, the crazy high-top shown at the beginning of the article.
It appears to be a cross between a Free Run Motion and a Flyknit LunarEpic, and offers the high-top, sock-like collar that’s so in right now … but unlike the Flyknit LunarEpic it features a light, cored-out Free bottom with no Lunarlon. Gone are the laces found on previous models, as they’re replaced with an adjustable strap that Nike promises will let you customize the fit of the shoe to give you all the support that you need.
Shouts to Nike for bringing more new Frees to the general public … gotta keep everyone from the hardcore Crosfitters to the twice-a-week yoga participants happy. FYI: the high-top Free Run Motion Flyknits will be available May 4th, the other two styles are available now.
