Talkin’ Kicks: Why Being Outgoing Makes Sneakerheading More Fun

SNEAKER-CON-MIAMI-2013101

Sneakerheads are outgoing and reserved in equal measures. Some like nothing better than to talk kicks and anything related to them, while some would rather keep their sneaker habit to themselves, and would rather surf the web looking at whatever sneaker site breaks the news about a new release first.

Both being outgoing and keeping to yourself are perfectly fine, but there’s something to be said for being outgoing, especially when it comes to shoes. You can learn a lot, share your thoughts and opinions with others who share the same interests, and maybe even make a new friend or two in the process.

Still unsure? Well I’ll hit you with a personal example. I was chilling in my favorite sneaker shop yesterday (if you know me, you know where I was), and saw a guy step in with a dope pair of Air Tech Challenge II’s (the Wimbledons to be specific). I wasn’t going to say anything at first because I didn’t feel like it (I’m super social but very reserved sometimes as well), but eventually I just said “why not”, and made a comment about the Tech Challenges.

I’m glad I did, because off of that simple comment, I wound up having a long conversation with the guy, and it turned out we had a lot of shared interests, from an interest in old-school Nike tennis shoes like the Tech Challenge II to a love for Kith (shouts to Based Ronnie).

And all that came off a simple comment about kicks. None of it would have happened if I’d just kept to myself.

So I’m here letting you know: if someone has on some kicks you’re a fan of, make that comment. You might wind up having a great conversation about sneakers and discover you have some shared interests in the sneaker game. Or you might not. But you won’t know for sure if you don’t say anything!
