What Retirement? The Kobe AD Will Attempt To Carry On The Mamba’s Legacy

The classic saying “all good things come to an end” isn’t quite as true these days. Sure, it still holds a lot of weight, but in the case of Kobe Bean Bryant’s signature Nike Basketball line, it’s meaningless.

Everyone knows Kobe is retired. How could you not? You know he went out with a bang in his final game, scoring 60 points with the same killer instinct he always had. But what you might not know is Nike won’t let his signature shoe line die, as a new model, the Kobe AD will be releasing on November 22nd.

Similar to most of his previous signature shoes, it’s a low-top, low-to-the-court, responsive sneaker with Zoom Air cushioning that aims to give you the ultimate in speed, quickness, and court feel. Kobe himself has said that even though he’s retired, he wants to keep the “mamba mentality” alive, and make sure that hoopers who push themselves have the best shoes possible.

And let’s be honest here: there’s a healthy dose of good old Nike marketing involved. There’s still a demand for Kobe and Kobe-related products, and Nike will milk every last dollar they can out of the line. Kobe’s name still holds a lot of weight and can move products, both old and new. As long as it keeps moving, they’ll keep selling it. Let’s just hope they don’t pull a Jordan Brand and recycle the same ideas over and over … if they do, Adidas might just start making inroads on the basketball market too.

What do you think about the Kobe AD? Do you like it, or do you think that Nike needs to let the Kobe line rest in peace?
