Kyrie 3: How Does It Stack Up?

Kyrie Irving: One of the most exciting players in the NBA, a point guard with a quick crossover, a knack for getting to the hoop, a true competitor’s spirit, and three signature shoes now under his belt.

That’s right, the Nike Kyrie 3 released yesterday in the “Black Ice” colorway. Even though we believe that signature shoes aren’t what they used to be, we’ve always had a soft spot for Kyrie’s line, as all the shoes he’s released so far have been clean, comfy … and most importantly, extremely affordable compared to other signature shoes. Not every kid’s parents can afford to drop $150+ on the newest signature shoe … so the Kyrie’s slightly lower price point has always been a win in our book.

The Kyrie 3 stacks up quite well when compared to his first two signature shoes. Although we still believe the first ones are the best, the 3’s are much better than the 2’s. We just couldn’t get down with the odd silhouette and strangely-shaped sole of the 2’s, so we’re glad to see that the Kyrie 3’s seem to have drawn more design cues from his first model.

As far as performance goes, the Nike Zoom cushioning is always a great choice for a guard, and it should partner well with the independent traction pods on the bottom. The Flywire upper and independent support band on the forefoot should also provide the lockdown any hooper would need for quick moves and cuts.

So all in all, we’re pretty gassed on the Kyrie 3. If you see us out hooping … don’t be surprised if we’ve got a pair on our feet.
