Any connoisseur of sneakers and streetcar knows that shipping can get expensive quick. Most of what they cop is online, so a shipping fee is just part of the deal. Yeah, it sucks … but there’s not really much you can do about it. You want to get your jawns right? If you do, then you’ve gotta pay that shipping cost. There’s really no way around it.
But when does a shipping charge get too high? When does it go from a pure inconvenience to something more? That depends.
A typical shipping charge is a flat $10, no matter what’s being shipped or how much it weighs. This is a little steep, but it’s an industry standard, practiced by Supreme and Kith among others, so it’s not the worst thing in the world. Other companies will offer flat rate shipping for $6.99, and some companies are even willing to toss you free shipping on certain items. All these options range from reasonable to good.
But some brands, like Anti Social Social Club (yeah, there’s a reason for that picture of the hoodie above) just tax. $19 was the shipping charge for a hoodie from their last drop, almost 30% of the actual price of the item. They’re making money hand over fist on their shipping charges, and that’s just not acceptable.
Sure, most companies make a few bucks on shipping. It’s part of the deal. What’s not part of the deal is gouging your customers when there’s no need to. Your product is hype and you’re probably going to sell out of it anyway, so why do you need to drive the shipping charge up into the stratosphere? Beats us. All we know is that we want shipping price reform, and we want it now. Hey, we can all dream, right? Yes, we’re aware it’ll never happen as long as the hype is high.
