Make It Work: 4 Ways To Make Shoes That Are Too Big Fit

You did it. You cooked on a release that you really wanted. Your pair is on the way to you, and you can’t wait for them to show up so you can rock them and take fire shots for the ‘gram. There’s only one small problem though: you had to grab a half size too big.

This is an all-too-common occurrence, and can be very frustrating. When a shoe’s too big, not only will it have you tripping and stumbling all over the place, it’ll crease and get beat up more quickly because of all the dead space in the toe. Thankfully, there are ways to remedy this, and we’ve got four of them right here for you. Without further ado, here’s 4 ways to make shoes that are too big fit.

Double-Sock

We’re starting with the oldest trick in the book: the double sock. Some swear by it anyway because it apparently prevents blisters, but it serves as a great space-taker as well. If your shoes are just a little bit too big, throwing that second pair of socks on might snug them up just enough to make them fit.

Replacement Insoles

Shoe have too much room in the toe box or too sloppy in the heel? Try throwing in a replacement insole. Not only will it make the shoe much more comfortable, it’ll snug them up about a quarter size because aftermarket insoles are much thicker than the cheap flat foam insoles that come stock in most shoes.

Sneaker Shield/Force Field

Make your shoes fit a little tighter and prevent toe box creasing? Sounds great, doesn’t it? Sneaker Shields and Force Fields are the way to go. Slip them in your shoes to get a better fit and keep your  toe box crease free at the same time. The only downside is that they can become uncomfortable after extended wear..but sometimes you’ve gotta sacrifice comfort for crease-free style.

Gel Heel Cup In The Toe

An old Champs/Foot Locker trick (shouts to anyone who’s worked there), putting a heel cup in the toe box of your shoe instead of the heel will act similar to a Force Field. Since your toes are elevated, the shoe fits more snug and creasing is decreased (see what I did there?). It won’t work quite as well as a Sneaker Shield/Force Field, but it will be significantly more comfortable.
