It’s just past 11 PM. I’m sitting here thinking about style, fashion, and jawnz as I so often do. I’m thinking about what shirt goes the best with what jacket. I’m thinking about what denim looks the best with what kicks. I’m letting my mind wander with wonderful visions of crazy alphets and fire jawnz.
When I do this, I usually have revelations of some sort. Some are small, some are life-changing, and some are plain humorous. This one would fall in the third category: have you ever thought about how Target may have forever ruined the red tee & khakis fit?
We’ve all been to Target. We all know that everyone has to wear the same uniform, a red tee/shirt/sweatshirt and khakis. And owing to that, you literally cannot risk rocking that fit in public, unless you want to look like you’re knowledgable about produce or know exactly where the dog treats are in the back. Hell, someone might even yell at you because they can’t figure out how to set up the bookshelf they bought at your store last week.
And this is tough. A red tee can be challenging to rock…especially if it has any white print on it. Black pants? Nope. Clashes with the white/red too much. Light stone-wash pants? Same thing. Grey pants? Possibly. Dark blue pants?? Depends on the shoes? Khakis? Yes. They’re light, neutral, and look great with red.
But then you’ll look like you’re heading in to work. It’s a no-go. You could say that the same applies with a royal blue shirt and khakis thanks to Best Buy, but at least that blue goes with almost any other color. It’s not quite as dashing and loud as red. I haven’t worn my Virgil Abloh University of Wisconsin tee more than a few times, simply owing to the fact that I can’t think of anything to rock with it…except for fucking khakis.
So let’s all have a minute of silence (and pour out a 40 of course) for the red tee and khakis fit. It would be altogether too easy if we could just rock it…but at least this way we’ve all got to be more innovative. No easy fits for us.
