If you had to pick one sneaker to put in the history books that best represented 2016, it would have to be the Adidas NMD. The lightweight, casual, comfy sneaker ran the game in a way that sneaker companies can only dream of. Everyone from the fashion-forwards set to the high school kids loved it, and it shows no signs of losing steam. Adidas could sit pat on it (just like Nike did with the Roshe), and it would continue to sell.
But they’re not doing that. They’re innovating, like they’ve been doing so well the past few years. The NMD R2 was officially unveiled this week, and it expands on what was so great about the first model. Gone are the plugs on the midsole. In is heel padding, a tighter ankle, and woven-in laces. Yeah, we’re bout it.
The upper features a “shadow noise” (what Adidas is calling it) motif and tonal Three Stripes branding, and unlike the last model there are notches in the Boost as well. It’s everything you love about the NMD with just enough updates to keep it fresh and different.
There’s no official release date on the R2’s yet, but we wouldn’t be surprised if we saw them before the year was out. They’d kill the game in the holiday season, and help Adidas end the year on a strong note. We’re not saying we’re prophets of any sort, but don’t be surprised if we called it. Stay tuned right here for any NMD updates and news … we’re as excited about them as you are!
