Nike Basketball is not what it used to be.
We’ve discussed this frequently here on KicksOneTwo. The resell value isn’t there, the designs aren’t as good, and until recently, most of the price points were too damn high. However, there’s a spark of hope for Nike, and it’s the signature shoe of a lanky, athletic Indiana Pacer, Paul George.
The PG1 hit the market recently, and it’s already won many a fan over with its clean, simple low-top design that doesn’t look way too techy (one of the major downfalls of the LeBron line in recent years), and its easily digestible price point ($110 for a signature sneaker? Have we gone back in time 10 years?). The shoe’s cool enough to wear in the streets, but performs wonderfully on the court too, as many of George’s Pacer teammates have labeled it the best sneaker they’ve ever played in. That’s a pretty damn good endorsement if we do say so ourselves.
Between the PG1 and the Kyrie line, Nike has made signature basketball shoes accessible at reasonable price points once again without sacrificing the designs. They’re not going to win the market with overpriced, overdesigned “high-end” basketball shoes, they’re going to win with simple, clean, reasonably-priced releases. Kudos to Nike Basketball …2017’s been good to them so far, and we’re excited to see if they can keep it rolling for the rest of this year and into next year as well.
