Nike: The Real Winner At The Boston Marathon

The 121st edition of the Boston Marathon was ran this week … and like usual it was an event to remember. From the first woman to ever run in the marathon running again 50 years later to a veteran with a prosthetic leg crossing the finish line, there was a lot to be remembered.

Unfortunately for the event’s sponsor adidas, there’s probably more that they want to forget.

For starters, they sent out a completely tone-deaf email to everyone who finished the marathon that stated “you survived”. You’d think that someone in their marketing department might have pointed out that may have not been the best idea … but they’ve got to hold an L on that one.

They’ve also got to hold an L because 5 of the first 6 men and women to cross the line were sponsored by Nike (first, second, and third in the men’s division and first and third in the women’s division to be specific).

And all of these runners were wearing the brand new Zoom VaporFly 4%, Nike’s latest distance running shoe that claims to make runners up to 4% more efficient than their previous fastest marathon shoe thanks to a new ZoomX midsole and a full-length carbon plate that’s designed to minimize energy loss during a runner’s toe bend without increasing work from the calf muscle.

W for Nike, L for adidas. It’s not the end of the world for them, but it’s a bad look when their biggest rival essentially takes over their event, and they muddled it even further with a stupid e-mail. We’ll see what happens on the running circuit going forwards, but here’s hoping adidas can get their act together.

What do you think of the Boston Marathon results? What’s worse for adidas, their awful email or Nike nearly sweeping the top 3 in both the men’s and women’s categories? Hit us up and let us know in the comments or on Twitter, check our Facebook page for daily updates, and, as always, be sure to follow us on Instagram for all the fire sneaker pictures you can handle.
