Supreme vs. Bape. A clash of titans. The longest-running debate in streetwear. A question with no true answer (if you’re wondering though, we’re partial to Supreme). The two biggest brands in our culture each have their devoted fans who swear nothing’s better…and recently, one of those fans has been making some serious waves on the Internet.
See this guy in the video above? He goes by “Ape”, and has been on quite a roll for the past week, terrorizing Supreme stans all over New York City, filming himself throwing clothes in the Supreme store (even filming yourself in there is pretty impressive, as it’s not allowed), and even messing with Jonah Hill.
So you’ve got to wonder…what’s this guy’s end game? Although it is pretty funny to see him messing around with stans, you could debate that he takes it a little too far in certain parts of the video, namely threatening to beat up kids half his size for wearing Supreme, and throwing clothes on the floor. There’s a difference between being funny and being a prick, and he’s right on that line. One things that’s certainly not funny is this Twitter video, in which Ape sends his goons to beat up someone who’s waiting in line for Supreme.
The Internet is certainly a strange place. Could you even imagine something like this happening ten years ago? No, you can’t…because it wouldn’t. The Internet can give a platform to someone who doesn’t really deserve any attention, and even though this whole thing is pretty funny, that’s exactly what’s going on here.
We can’t say for sure how much longer this is going to continue, and even though it has provided us with a few good laughs, we can’t help but think Ape is going to wind up getting knocked out sooner or later when he messes with the wrong Supreme fanboy or shop employee. We do know one thing though: whatever happens is going to be very interesting.
What do you think of Ape? Do you think his schtick is funny, or does it cross the line? Let us know in the comments or on Twitter, check our Facebook page for daily updates, and, as always, be sure to follow us on Instagram for all the fire sneaker pictures you can handle.
