Jordan Brand has been doing a lot of experimenting with the Jordan I lately, and the results have been somewhat mixed.
As die-hard Jordan I fans, we’ll always prefer the originals, but we understand that a company’s gotta shake shit up every so often to stay ahead of the curve … so we can forgive Jordan Brand for messing around a bit with our favorite model ever. However, we just simply can’t get behind the new color-blocked midsoles on the grade school Jordan I’s that released this week.
Sure, we understand that grade school pairs will mostly be more colorful and whacky than OG Jordan I’s. They’re made for kids, and kids usually like bright colors, unless they’re street goths in training. That’s cool … but the color-blocked look is flat out whack. It ruins the clean look that the I’s provide and add a totally unnecessary amount of flair to what was made to be a clean and simple shoe.
We can only hope that the color-blocked midsoles are only a phrase, and that they don’t wind up popping up on men’s pairs. There would be nothing whacker than a summer full of unnecessary color-blocked pairs, so we might just go ahead and start hoarding as many OG’s as possible to make sure we’re right for the summer. Only time will tell … but we’re definitely not looking forwards to seeing more of these jawns.
What do you think of the color-blocked Jordan I’s? Do you find them as uninspiring as we do, or do you like them and their new look? If so, why?
