We’ve all done it before. You see something you like, either online or in the store, and you just say “fuck it” and cop. Sometimes impulse buys like this can be your favorite purchases, but more often than not you wind up with a pair of kicks that you don’t really want that much.
From a personal standpoint, the last time that this happened to me was with the recent release of the Black Infrared VI’s. I had an opportunity to grab them on release day, and just went ahead and did it. They sat in their box untouched until recently when I sold them. Even though I got my money back, I don’t really know why I copped, and regretted it almost instantly.
So here’s how you steer yourself away from making those impulse buys. Sure, you can usually return an impulse buy, but it’s a lot easier to just not do it in the first place.
It’s actually very simple. When you see something you like, take a few seconds to think. There’s a few important questions you must ask yourself before you’re sure you want to cop.
1. Do I have something similar?
If it’s a dope pair of all-black kicks, that’s great, but what if you already have 4-5 pairs of all-black shoes? If so, they’ll most likely just chill in the box. Save the money for something else.
2. Do these shoes fit my personal style?
Most people have their own look that they go for, and that involves a certain type of footwear. I’m all for breaking out of the box and grabbing something that’s not really in your comfort zone, but make sure you’re actually willing to rock the shoes before you cop them.
3. Am I really about this life?
Although it sounds humorous, it’s a question that’s worth asking. Be 100% sure you’re about that life before you cop. If you’re not 100% sure you want them, there’s a pretty good chance you’ll wind up regretting the purchase later. If you’re not really about it, don’t try to be about it.
So there you have it. A few solid ways to make sure you really want what you’re about to cop. With how far in advance releases are revealed nowadays, you should have plenty of time to try and make up your mind. Be sure you’re right, then go ahead (word to Davy Crockett)
