Thoughts On The Nike x Supreme Air Max 98

A very special day is almost upon us.

This Thursday, two juggernauts, one of the skate/street industry, and one of the athletic footwear industry will come together as they have in the past for another collaboration. Hypebeasts will develop uncontrollable erections. Sneakerheads will start foaming at the mouth. Kids with their dad’s credit card will…well, they’ll just continue to spend their dad’s money.

That’s right, the next Supreme and Nike collaboration will be here on Thursday, the 21st of April..and it’s the Air Max 98, a model that occasionally gets lost in the vault of Nike’s classic kicks. We’re big fans though, and think this is one of Nike’s better collaborative efforts of the past few months.

First off, you’ve got to love that they chose a slightly more obscure shoe. They could have gone for a guaranteed home run with any number of models, but they decided to reach farther into the corners of the storage room and give us something a little bit different. That in and of itself makes the collaboration dope.

Secondly, it’s nice that the shoe isn’t too garishly branded. We love Supreme just as much as anyone else (and probably more), but slapping giant logos on something feels tired and un-inspired. We’re really glad they didn’t do it here. The Supreme detailing is simple and small, but still leaves a big mark on the shoe as a whole.

Thirdly, the colorways as a whole are very solid. There’s the all black (which you can never go wrong with), the silver/red (can’t be a Supreme collaboration without at least some red), and our personal favorite, the “Sail” colorway, which will be absolutely perfect for the summer. Well done.

So all in all, we’re calling the collab a success. We’ll be right there with you shooting for the shoes this Thursday…but we’re not expecting too much. We know how these kind of drops usually go.
