Adidas has got all the juice right now.
Coming off an extremely strong 2016, they’re looking to keep a firm hold on the monopoly they’ve established on “cool factor” (let’s be honest here, they’re killing Nike and Jordan on that front), and in 2017, they’re looking to their classic EQT model to do just that.
These aren’t your dad’s EQT’s though. They’ve been modernized, equipped with Adidas’s best technologies like Boost foam and Primeknit, and look more sleek, mean, and modern than ever before.
But the real question is this: will they pop off? The sneaker industry is a fickle one, and sneakerheads can lose interest in a trend in just a few months … and lose interest in a brand in about the same amount of time. Adidas needs to keep leveraging their influencers (can you imagine the instant madness if Kanye was spotted in a pair of these?) to help keep them on top, but if 2016 is any sort of indication, they’ll be able to do just that.
The “heritage” look is in right now, and putting a modern twist on a classic shoe is always a good idea though. We’re with Adidas on this one, and are of the opinion that they can maintain their top spot … but only time will tell. It might be worth looking back at the midway point of the year to see how things are going … so we’ll check back in on the EQT’s then, and hopefully we’ll be able to gloat about how we’re right.
What do you think of Adidas’s updated EQT’s? Do you think they’ll be a hit, or will sneakerheads tire of the dominance of the Three Stripes?
