Here at KicksOneTwo, we’re of mixed opinions on custom shoes.
We love a simple, clean custom in which the customizer changes the shoe just enough to be unique, but we can’t stand customs in which the customizer slaps the most hyped-up thing he/she can think of on a hyped-up model. We actually dislike that type of custom so much that we wrote an article a little while back about how everyone needs to chill with the Yeezy customs.
Sadly, the customs featured in today’s article fall into that same category. These Supreme/LV customs on an adidas NMD deserve the BIGGEST roast hand.
“Why’s that?” you may be asking. “The work seems pretty clean”. Sure, the work is clean. Very clean, in fact. We’re not knocking the customizer’s skill. What we’re knocking is the thought process behind the custom itself.
Customs are a way for the customizer to express his individuality. To take an existing piece of art and put his spin on it. To do something creative, and make something new. Thinking creatively is a great part of sneaker customizing … and there was next to no creative thinking being done on this custom.
Slap the monogram from the most hyped collab of the year on the most hyped shoe of the year? Not gaining a lot of originality points on that one, as far as we’re concerned. These are straight hyped-up garbage.
We can only hope to see less of these types of customs, and more customs that actually express the creativity of the customizers. That’s what it’s supposed to be all about, right?
