Sneaker Thoughts: Jordan I SB “Lance Mountain”

The sneaker world was abuzz this last weekend with the release of the Lance Mountain-designed Jordan I SB’s. Both SB and Jordan heads clamored to get their hands on a pair, and local shops like Cal Surf and Familia had hundreds of people turn out to get a raffle ticket (in the words of a Cal Surf employee “Yeah man, that’s pretty much all we’ve been doing all day.”)

Now that all the craziness has subsided slightly (if you want to see a few shots of the shoes, be sure to take a look at yesterday’s post!), it’s time to take a look back on the sneakers with a slightly more unbiased perspective. Here’s my thoughts.

First off, I love the shoe. As you may already know, the Jordan I is my favorite Jordan of all time. It’s just such a classic silhouette that goes perfect with anything. I also thought it was super creative how the shoes are mismatched pairs of Breds and Royals, and if you somehow obtained both pairs, you’d have a set.

However, I will say I’m worried about one small thing. I really hope people actually wear the shoes. Why, you ask? Because they’re unique. As the paint wears off, every pair should have its own special creases and wear areas. They’re pretty much custom to you because no two pairs will wear exactly the same. If you use them like you’re supposed to, you’ll have a 1 of one pair, and who wouldn’t want that?

It’ll be interesting to see if most sneakerheads sit on these for a few months or break them out right away. Regardless, they’re a great shoe and I can’t wait to see what Jordan Brand and Nike SB come together to cook up next.
