It’s Not Always About The Money

You’ve heard it a thousand times: “Resellers screwed up the sneaker game.”

This is a fairly valid statement. I’m not going to go on some big rant right now on how you should never charge over retail for any pairs whatsoever and if you do, you’re the reason why sneakers are so hard to get nowadays, and blah, blah, blah. I’m not going to do that because I don’t think it’s true at all. There’s nothing wrong with charging over retail or making some money on a pair of kicks. That’s just how the game is now. Besides, who am I to say nobody should resell ever? I’d be flat-out lying if I said I’ve never resold and made money on a pair of shoes.

However, if you are going to resell sneakers, be sure to take it in stride. It’s not always about the money. Not even close.

If you have a friend or a connection that struck out on a pair you have, hook them up. For the life of me I cannot understand people who straight-up disregard their homies and shoot for profit only with shoes. These are the people that need to go. Please don’t be that guy.

If none of your friends want the pair you have, turn to your local community. Help someone out for the sake of helping them out. Improve your local sneaker community. Make a new connection. Who knows, that guy you hooked up could become one of your best friends one day.

Remember: Connections are much more valuable than a $50 profit. I’d LOVE to debate with anybody that feels differently.

Please don’t make me bring up the Golden Rule again. Again, I’m not telling you all to start selling Yeezys for retail. (However, if you do think that’s what I’m saying, I wear a 10.5). Instead, keep in mind that sneaker karma is very real, and if you believe in it and abide by it’s rules, you’ll be repaid greatly.

If you don’t want to hook anybody up and instead want to make a quick profit, all the more power to you. Just tread carefully. I’m not gunna knock the hustle or front like I haven’t done it before.

What do you think? Am I blasphemous for saying reselling in moderation is OK? Should I be ran out of the sneaker game and banished for life? (The thought of this makes me laugh). Let me know in the comments or on Twitter!

(Also, I resisted saying “REALLY I’M THE PLUG, REALLY I’M THE PLUG” for this whole article, so you’re welcome.)
