Finding your go-to music for the summer is essential. It’s gotta give off the right vibes. It’s gotta sound good in the car. It has to fit the summertime mood just right.
Thankfully, KicksOneTwo staff favorite Cousin Stizz has got you covered with his new project, “MONDA”, named after a friend of his that passed away at a young age from cancer. The tape is catchy, yet slightly sinister. Melodic, yet it still knocks. Yeah, it’s perfect for the summertime.
If you’re not familiar with Stizzy yet, let us give you a quick background: The Boston-based (yeah, that’s right … not what you expected, huh?) rapper burst onto the scene with his standout 2015 tape, Suffolk County (do yourself a favor and listen here if you haven’t heard the tape yet), and garnered attention with standout tracks from the project like “Shoutout” and “Fresh Prince”.
After releasing four buzz-worthy singles earlier this summer, MONDA finally dropped yesterday. With production from Tee-WaTT, M. Ali, Dumdrumz, Tedd Boyd, Latrell James, and Lil Rich, the same squad that worked on Suffolk County, the tape sounds familiar, yet slightly more refined and grown up. Cardo and Lakim also have production credits, and Larry June is the only featured artist (nobody likes a tape over-saturated with features anyway).
So if you haven’t already heard it, go ahead and press play below. We don’t recommend music unless it’s something we really stand behind … and we can guarantee you’ll love MONDA.
What do you think of MONDA? How does it stack up to Suffolk County in your opinion? What’s your favorite track on the project?
