Sunday Sneaker Ramblings Vol V

It’s back.

It’s been almost a month since the last edition of Sunday Sneaker Ramblings, and as there was a lot that went on in the sneaker world this week, it’s only right that Sunday’s article briefly touches on everything important that went down over the last seven days.

Let’s start off with the Air Mag announcement, the biggest news in sneakers this past week. Earlier in the week, I discussed how I really liked the way Nike was handling the release (a link to the article is here if you’d like to check it out), and after a few days of thinking about it, I’m still very much of the same opinion. I’ll never have enough cash to get my hands on a pair, but it’s dope that they’re keeping something that special super limited. I will say that I’m surprised hypebeasts weren’t more upset about the news. Most people seem to be in full support of the release method and the proceeds going to charity. Chalk up a win for the sneaker community because of that.

The second biggest sneaker news of the week also came from Nike, with the announcement of this year’s Doernbecher collection. Although I think the DB program is a really great thing, I’ll be honest: this year’s shoes are all ugly as shit (apart from the Janoskis, which are OK). Just because the shoes are for a good cause and designed by kids doesn’t mean that they look dope, and each and every single pair in the collection will be an easy pass for me.

Finally, theĀ “re-release” (if you will) of the Supreme 5’s. Although I struck out again, and took my second big L (R.I.P.) when they dropped on NDC, a few friends were cooking and managed to get their pairs. It was good to see the sneaker drop twice so everyone who didn’t have a chance to get their hands on it the first time was able to take another shot. If anyone’s got a size 10 they’d consider parting ways with, feel free to hit me up. I’ve got heat trades on deck.

Another week of news dominated by Nike. Sure, Adidas, Asics, and everyone else made a little noise, but between the Mags and the DB announcement, Nike ran shit this week. Here’s hoping next time you check back in, every company will be making waves. The more, the merrier!
