Sunday Sneaker Ramblings Vol V

It’s back.

It’s been almost a month since the last edition of Sunday Sneaker Ramblings, and as there was a lot that went on in the sneaker world this week, it’s only right that Sunday’s article briefly touches on everything important that went down over the last seven days.

Let’s start off with the Air Mag announcement, the biggest news in sneakers this past week. Earlier in the week, I discussed how I really liked the way Nike was handling the release (a link to the article is here if you’d like to check it out), and after a few days of thinking about it, I’m still very much of the same opinion. I’ll never have enough cash to get my hands on a pair, but it’s dope that they’re keeping something that special super limited. I will say that I’m surprised hypebeasts weren’t more upset about the news. Most people seem to be in full support of the release method and the proceeds going to charity. Chalk up a win for the sneaker community because of that. read more

Inspiration In The Sneaker Game

Want to know something really great about sneakers and the sneaker game as a whole?? There’s a lot of inspiration to be found. From creative collaborations, to innovative shop layouts, to new and fresh ways to release sneakers, there’s always something occurring well ahead of the curve.

However, what I draw the most inspiration from in the sneaker game is the designers themselves. The best designers can cook up a mind-blowing new sneaker, or create a colorway so dope that it looks like it came from heaven. read more

Supreme Retro 5 Thoughts

jordan5

Last week, I was lucky enough to be able to cop the white Supreme Retro 5’s off of Supreme’s website when they initially released. I know, I know. Not another Supreme 5 post. Trust me, I’ve seen more than my fair share of them this past week, but I like to think I view things a little differently than others. Here are my honest thoughts on Supreme as a whole, and the Supreme 5’s:

These shoes are actually the first item I’ve ever purchased from Supreme in my life. “What?? A teenage sneakerhead that doesn’t own any Supreme clothing??” Crazy, isn’t it? To be quite frank, I’ve never really got into all of the Supreme hype. I have been interested in buying a box logo hoodie, among some other pieces, and I’ve always been intrigued by the “godliness” of the brand to streetwear-heads, but I’ve never pushed myself to buy anything. The prices are just way too high. Now, if I wasn’t paying for college, and was making some really good money, there’s no doubt I’d be buying some Supreme. However, I’m not, so I don’t. For now, I’ll pass on drop after drop without a care in the world about it. read more

Nike Is Releasing The Air Mag The Right Way

1484262800986865835

If you were anywhere near a computer, phone, tablet, or television yesterday, you already saw the news. On the date that Marty McFly was sent to in Back To The Future Part II, Nike announced that his shoes from the movie (the Air Mag) will be releasing with a power-lacing system. Some thought they’d drop today, but all we got was a pair of Bruins (still a dope shoe!) that were worn in the film as well.

Hypebeasts and resellers all over the world were surely disappointed with the news, but I for one was very happy with how Nike handled everything. A shoe that has as much cultural impact as the Air Mag should be given special treatment, and Nike did just that. read more

Why I’m A Shameless Kith Fanboy

s258702199577610096_p50_i2_w1500

I don’t partake in groupie-ish activities. I don’t ask “famous people” for pictures. I don’t tweet shit intentionally thirsting for retweets from people or corporations. By and large, I don’t really partake in fanboying at all.

However, the exception to that is Kith. I absolutely love Kith. Everything from Ronnie Fieg‘s collaborative sneakers with Asics and New Balance, to their clothing collections (the first Essentials drop and White Label 2.0 would be my favorites if I had to chose), to the recent Kith Treats cereal bar inside the Brooklyn Kith location. Why do I love Kith so much, you may ask? There’s a few reasons. read more

WAX’s First Lineup Has Been Unveiled

Over the past few weeks, you’ve probably been wondering exactly what the deal with WAX is. The tweets, videos, and posts on it were somewhat cryptic..and that was by design. However, the wait to find out what exactly’s going on is over.

Last night, we dropped the announcement video you see above. The show will be the first in our monthly series of shows at the Kitty Cat Klub (did you catch that in the last video?), and Su Na will be headlining (yes, that was one of his tracks in the background of the skate video as well. Even more hidden symbolism). We’re also bringing our Left Life family out (that’s johndaniel, Widikus, Mikael X, and Akru The Zulu to be specific), and our resident DJs Connye and BVCKWOODS will be spinning as well. read more

Keep It 100

You know what the best thing about being a KicksOneTwo reader is?

It’s that we’re always going to keep it 8 more than 92 with you (that’s 100 for anyone out there who’s mathematically challenged). We believe that honesty is the best policy, and we strive to make sure every piece we write is as brutally honest as possible.

There’s too many sites and “personalities” nowadays that seem to have lost their way, and shamelessly amp everything that a company puts out, either because they’re getting paid or because they’re getting sent free product (or they’re hoping to). There’s nothing worse than just turning into a corporate megaphone, and we’re never going to be doing that here. read more

WAX Update

We’re drawing closer and closer to the first installment of WAX (11/19/15 to be specific), and there’s a lot of dope new stuff going on. First off, WAX is now on Twitter, Instagram, and Tumblr, so be sure to follow all those platforms to keep tabs on what’s next for WAX.

Secondly, we just dropped a new promo video. Although specific details about what’s going down are still under wraps (we promise they’re dope and we know that you want to know more, but what’s better than a surprise, right?), I can give you a hint: there’s a lot of hidden symbolism in the new promo video, which is below for your viewing pleasure. read more
